What Can Travel Companies Do To Combat Cybercrime?

Jan 18, 2023

Barry Gooch, chairman of Prevention Of Fraud in Travel (PROFiT), believes travel companies aren’t doing enough to protect themselves against cyber fraud.

Cybercrime is on the increase in every sector and industry as criminals look for new and innovative ways to attack businesses online. The recent surge of digital companies that have begun trading online post-pandemic has attracted the attention of criminals from around the world, especially Russia, since the start of their invasion of Ukraine.

Travel companies are especially vulnerable as they are often smaller businesses reluctant to invest as they are currently in survival mode.

Barry Gooch, chairman of Prevention Of Fraud in Travel (PROFiT), believes travel companies aren’t doing enough to protect themselves against cyber fraud. Mr Gooch also fears the cost-of-living crisis will lead to increased criminal activity in 2023.

In a warning related to fraud, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) warned consumers to be wary of scams when looking for deals. Additionally, the CAAs head of ATOL, Michael Budge, advised consumers to pay for travel with a credit card, check their holiday has ATOL financial protection and watch out for hidden extras.

As the world reels from a cost-of-living crisis and is still recovering from the Covid-19 global pandemic, cybercriminals will be looking for any way to take advantage of your travel business.

What can travel companies do to combat cybercrime?

Understandably, with a recent pandemic that decimated the travel and hospitality sector, followed by a cost-of-living crisis that is affecting the way people look at how they are spending their money, travel businesses are reluctant to invest in new technology.

However, one of the most effective ways of combatting cybercrime is with cutting-edge tech that is inherently secure and is being increasingly used by your customers to research, compare and choose where they travel next.

Additionally, smartphones are everywhere, with over 6.5 billion globally in 2022 and an anticipated 7.7 billion by 2027. As a result, the mobile market for your travel brand will only increase, and so is the need for a fully responsive website.

Upgrading your website to be more secure and fully responsive can be expensive and time-consuming or inexpensive and quick. If you choose traditional legacy software, you’ll need deep pockets and plenty of patience.

If, however, you choose no-code travel technology, which is fully customisable quick and easy to install and starts from under £100/month, you’ll have a system that can grow with you.

No-code is an innovative technology that lets you build your travel website without knowing anything about computer programming or software development. Instead, use drag-and-drop prebuilt blocks or widgets to create powerful, advanced applications.

Customisable travel booking widgets, search boxes, flexible layouts, dynamic offer boxes and payment infrastructures that get you up and running quickly and inexpensively.

If you want a website that as well as being secure and mobile responsive, lets you plan for the future, you need travel tech that:

  • Is customisable
  • Installed rapidly
  • Cloud-based
  • Doesn’t need an IT expert to keep it running
  • Lets you innovate and disrupt the travel industry.
  • Is cutting-edge and inexpensive.

No-code travel technology can give you all of the above and more without breaking the bank and can be installed and earn you money in less than a week.
