THE SHORT VERSION

Audience segmentation groups contacts using shared information or behaviour so a message can be planned for a particular group.

Audience segmentation groups contacts using shared information or behaviour so a message can be planned for a particular group.

Audience segmentation divides contacts into groups using shared information or behaviour. In Mailchimp, conditions determine who belongs to a segment. AND or OR logic controls how those conditions combine. A segment is therefore a defined selection of contacts, not just a descriptive name. Source: Mailchimp: Getting started with segments

Use an explicit interest

For an illustrative travel newsletter, build a segment around a destination interest that subscribers have chosen to share. Write down the inclusion rule and the message’s purpose. This gives the team a clear reason for sending that content to that group instead of guessing from a broad label.

Review the actual selection

Check sample contacts against the rules and review marketing permissions before sending. Keep the segment definition with the campaign brief. This helps the team spot a mistaken filter or stale assumption before the message reaches people, while making the decision easy to explain at the next campaign review.
