DNS, the Domain Name System, translates a domain name into the IP address needed to find the relevant internet resource.

The Domain Name System translates readable domain names into IP addresses. When a browser needs to reach a website, DNS resolution helps it find the address associated with the name. This is one part of reaching the site, rather than the content of the page itself. Source: Cloudflare: What is DNS?

Know who manages the records

Record which provider manages the domain’s DNS and who can authorise changes. Keep the access route with the website’s operational information. This gives the team a starting point when a supplier asks for a record to be added or changed.

Prepare before a website move

Save the current records and ask the website provider for the exact replacement values and a rollback plan. Agree how the live domain will be checked afterwards. These steps make the change reviewable and reduce reliance on somebody remembering the previous settings.
