THE SHORT VERSION

A linked travel arrangement is a lighter category under the Package Travel Regulations, for travel services bought separately for the same trip with help from a business. It is being abolished for bookings made from 6 April 2027.

A linked travel arrangement is a lighter category under the Package Travel Regulations, for travel services bought separately for the same trip with help from a business. It is being abolished for bookings made from 6 April 2027.

A linked travel arrangement covers two or more different types of travel service for the same trip, bought under separate contracts, that are not a package, where a business either:

  • lets the traveller select and pay for each service separately during a single visit or contact, which government guidance calls Type A

  • points the traveller to another business in a targeted way, and the traveller books with that business within 24 hours of the first booking being confirmed, which the guidance calls Type B

What it means for the business

Each supplier is responsible only for its own service. The business that facilitates the arrangement must give the traveller the prescribed information form, which makes clear that package rights do not apply, and must protect the payments it receives against its own insolvency. That protection only helps if that business itself fails.

Package or linked travel arrangement?

If the second booking is made through linked online booking processes within 24 hours of the first being confirmed, and the first business passed the traveller’s name, payment details and email address to the second, the result is a package, not a linked travel arrangement.

The April 2027 change

The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements (Amendment) Regulations 2026 abolish linked travel arrangements for bookings made on or after 6 April 2027. Type A arrangements become packages and Type B arrangements disappear. Arrangements made before that date keep the old rules.
