GLOSSARY
Payments
THE SHORT VERSION
A payment processor manages the technical handling of a transaction, including payment data and communication used for authorisation and settlement. In card payments, the issuing bank approves or declines the request. A payment gateway has a related role in securely passing payment information onwards. Source: Stripe: Payment processing explained
Map the payment journey
Ask the provider to explain which organisations handle the gateway, processing and acquiring functions for the proposed setup. Record where the booking reference appears in each report. This helps the team follow a transaction when an error or query occurs.
Test the whole booking scenario
During provider evaluation, try a deposit, a balance payment and a partial refund using test transactions. Check the resulting records and support route. These checks show whether the proposed service fits the actual payment steps the travel business needs.
