THE SHORT VERSION
Many UK beach packages include return transfers, but inclusion varies by operator and product. A transfer might be a shared coach or shuttle, or a private car or taxi.
What to check
Customers notice transfers, so confirm what is included: shared or private, the meeting point, luggage limits and what happens if flight times change. If an included transfer is not provided as agreed, the organiser must put it right unless that is impossible or the cost would be out of proportion, and the traveller may be entitled to a price reduction.
Transfers and the rules
Under the Package Travel Regulations, a transfer between a hotel and an airport or station is part of another travel service, not a travel service in its own right, so a hotel plus an airport transfer is not a package on its own.
For VAT, since 2 January 2026 taxi and private hire journeys are outside the Tour Operators’ Margin Scheme unless the same business supplies them together with, and as an ancillary part of, accommodation or travel by bus, coach, train, ship or aircraft. HMRC says traditional tour operators that buy in transfers as part of a package are not affected.
In airline language, a “transfer” means changing flights, which is something different.
