About AIB Merchant Services
AIB Merchant Services (AIBMS) helps businesses in Ireland and the UK accept card payments, from small and medium-sized firms to corporates and global brands. It trades through two companies: First Merchant Processing (Ireland) DAC, registered in Dublin, and First Merchant Processing (UK) Limited in Basildon, Essex. AIBMS describes itself as one of Ireland’s largest payment solution providers and one of Europe’s largest e-commerce acquirers.
Fiserv previously held a majority stake in AIBMS, and AIB Group owned the other 49.9%. Fiserv bought that 49.9% on 5 September 2025, so AIBMS is now wholly owned by Fiserv. It keeps the AIB Merchant Services name and uses the AIB name and logo under licence from Allied Irish Banks.
Online, AIBMS offers its Authipay payment gateway, a virtual terminal for keying in card details and payment links sent by email, SMS or WhatsApp. AIBMS says the links are secured with 3D Secure. It also supplies card machines, and its tourism and travel page describes ways to take holiday deposits or full payments for trips. In the UK, First Merchant Processing (UK) Limited is authorised by the FCA as a payment institution (firm reference 978310). The Irish company is authorised as a payment institution by the Central Bank of Ireland.
