About Barclaycard

Barclaycard Payments is the payment acceptance business of Barclays, which Barclays previously referred to as merchant acquiring. For business payments, Barclaycard is a trading name of Barclays Bank PLC in London and Barclaycard International Payments Limited in Dublin. Barclays says Barclaycard Payments powers small to multinational businesses. Barclaycard says it processed more than 9.2 billion card payments for more than 163,000 merchants in 2024.

Its Smartpay gateway takes card and digital wallet payments online, with Barclaycard Transact fraud screening available at extra cost. Smartpay Fuse offers stored card details, an account updater and real-time fraud tools. Smartpay Advance is an omnichannel gateway for corporates that also takes face-to-face, mail and phone payments. Barclaycard says Smartpay Advance can process payments in over 100 currencies and settle in one of 14. Barclaycard said its older ePDQ gateway, also known as Smartpay Checkout, would close on 31 March 2026.

The FCA register shows Barclays Bank PLC (firm reference 122702) as authorised, with Barclaycard as one of its trading names. Barclaycard International Payments Limited is authorised as a payment institution by the Central Bank of Ireland.
