About Opayo
Opayo belongs to Elavon, which describes itself as a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp. Opayo was previously Sage Pay: Elavon agreed to buy Sage Pay from The Sage Group in November 2019. Elavon says the legal entity behind Opayo changed to Elavon in June 2022, and it said in 2023 that it would keep using the Opayo name for its ecommerce and face-to-face products.
Through Opayo Pi, Elavon offers a drop-in checkout, a REST API and a customisable hosted payment page, with 3D Secure, AVS and CV2 checks and fraud screening tools. Opayo Pi supports Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal alongside cards, as well as recurring payments, stored cards and network tokenisation. Elavon says Opayo Pi is only available in the UK and Ireland. Merchants manage payments in the MyOpayo portal, which has reports, Pay-By-Link and, where the account allows it, a terminal for phone payments.
On the FCA register, Opayo is a trading name of U.S. Bank Europe DAC, formerly Elavon Financial Services DAC, whose UK branch is listed as authorised. Elavon’s current guide to setting up online payments points new customers to the Elavon Payment Gateway rather than Opayo.
