THE SHORT VERSION
Inference runs a trained model on an input to produce an output, such as a classification or a written response. Google distinguishes this from training: inference applies the model’s learned parameters. Producing a reply is not itself the same operation as retraining the model. Measure the task people will use
When trialling an enquiry assistant, time a complete representative request and review the usefulness of its answer. Include the supporting information the actual workflow requires. This makes the trial closer to the service an adviser or traveller would experience.
Ask how usage is controlled
Confirm the charging basis, expected request volume and handling of failed requests with the provider. Agree a review point for cost and response quality. This gives the business an operating plan beyond the initial demonstration of a successful reply.
