THE SHORT VERSION

An email click map shows where tracked link clicks occurred within an email, usually as an overlay on the message design.

An email click map shows where tracked link clicks occurred within an email, usually as an overlay on the message design.

A click map places recorded link activity onto a visual version of an email. In Mailchimp, the displayed percentages show each link’s share of total clicks in that campaign. They are not percentages of all recipients. Mailchimp also notes that bot activity can affect click reporting. Source: Mailchimp: About click maps

Check the action you wanted

Compare the main holiday link with secondary links and navigation. Check the destinations as well as their positions in the design. This helps you form a specific question for the next test, such as whether readers can identify the main enquiry route.

Follow the journey beyond the click

Review enquiries or bookings alongside the map before deciding that a prominent link performed well. Note whether the report uses total or unique clicks and whether bot filtering is active. These checks keep a visual concentration of clicks from becoming an unsupported sales claim.
