THE SHORT VERSION

Largest Contentful Paint measures when the largest eligible image, text block or video in the visible page area is rendered.

Largest Contentful Paint measures when the largest eligible image, text block or video in the visible page area is rendered.

Largest Contentful Paint, usually shortened to LCP, measures when the largest eligible piece of content in the visible page area is rendered. It is a loading metric, not a measure of how long a complete booking takes. Google’s guidance defines a good LCP as 2.5 seconds or less at the 75th percentile of visits, assessed separately for mobile and desktop. Source: web.dev: Largest Contentful Paint

Use it on the pages people actually visit

For an illustrative travel website review, include a destination page and a hotel detail page alongside the homepage. Record which element the test identifies as the LCP element. This gives the website team a specific starting point instead of an instruction to make everything faster.

Check the evidence behind the number

Keep the page address, device category and test date with the result. Distinguish a laboratory test from real visitor data, because they describe different conditions. PageSpeed Insights provides both types where the necessary data is available. Source: Google: About PageSpeed Insights

After a change, repeat the same comparison and check the booking controls still work. A faster first view is useful only if the rest of the intended journey remains usable.
