THE SHORT VERSION
A mid office typically handles booking management, supplier and pricing rules, payment schedules and reminders, customer records, checks on booking data and documents such as confirmations, itineraries and invoices, before passing financial data to the back office.
Why it matters
A good mid office keeps booking data accurate and saves staff re-keying information. In a typical set-up, a dynamic package booked online lands in the mid office, which records the deposit, schedules the balance reminder, produces the confirmation and passes the invoice data to the accounts system.
Watch out for
There is no standard definition. Some suppliers sell front, mid and back office as one product, and some people call the mid and back office together “the back office”.
In corporate travel, mid-office tools often add travel policy checks and approval steps that leisure systems do not need.
At Travelgenix
Travelify is our mid office. It manages suppliers and pricing, deposit rules, promotion codes, orders and customer records. Back-office features such as invoicing, payments and ATOL returns are available separately through the eTrip add-on.
