GLOSSARY
Payments
THE SHORT VERSION
Payout reconciliation explains how individual payments and adjustments produce a bank payout. Stripe’s payout reconciliation report is designed for automatic payouts and includes transaction amounts, fees and net values. Other payout arrangements need the appropriate reporting method. An illustrative calculation
Suppose a fictional batch contains £1,200 of customer payments, a £100 refund and £20 of fees. With no other adjustments, its net amount is £1,080. These numbers explain the calculation only; they are not a provider’s prices or a prediction of your payout.
Use transaction references to connect the batch to booking records. Matching by amount alone leaves ambiguity when several customers have paid the same deposit.
What to investigate
Check the report’s currency, date range and payout reference before looking for missing money. Then review any unmatched payment, refund or adjustment individually, recording the explanation and the person responsible for resolving it.
Keep reconciliation separate from checking whether a holiday is confirmed. One review explains the movement of money; the other checks the travel arrangements. A clear link between the records lets the team investigate both.

RELATED
Payment authorisation
Payment authorisation approves a payment amount. In a separate authorisation and capture flow, that amount is held for possible collection later.
Payment capture
Payment capture collects an amount that was previously authorised. It is a different event from a payment provider paying funds into your bank account.
How to reconcile travel payments and booking records
Follow the money from a customer payment to the bank payout, while keeping the supplier booking status clear. Use a small, repeatable reconciliation record.
