GLOSSARY
Payments
THE SHORT VERSION
Presentment currency is the currency of the charge. Stripe distinguishes it from the currency of the customer’s payment method and the currency used for settlement to the business. Those currencies do not have to be the same. Source: Stripe: supported currencies
Check the amount at the payment step
In an illustrative travel quote, a customer may see an estimated equivalent in another currency. Record separately the currency that will actually be charged. This makes it clear which amount the payment instruction must match.
Before accepting payment, compare the approved quote, payment page and confirmation. Use the same booking reference for the comparison so a currency difference is investigated against the right transaction.
Avoid ambiguous symbols
Write the currency clearly beside the amount in your internal record. If the symbol alone could be misunderstood, include the currency code. This is a practical way to make a handover clearer without requiring a colleague to infer the intended currency from the customer’s location.
Keep the original payment amount and currency when reconciling the booking. A later converted amount serves a different purpose and should be recorded separately.
