THE SHORT VERSION

A hotel rate plan is a named pricing offer with associated booking conditions. Compare those conditions as well as the room and headline price.

A rate plan identifies a hotel pricing offer to which conditions can be attached. Google Hotels’ availability specification applies restrictions to room types and rate plans, including rules about stay length, arrival and departure. The conditions must therefore be checked alongside the price. Source: Google Hotels: availability and booking restrictions

A travel example

Imagine the same double room is offered as breakfast included with cancellation allowed until a stated deadline, or as room only with different cancellation terms. These are illustrative offers. Compare the exact inclusions and conditions before treating the cheaper headline as the better match.

What to record

We recommend a readable rate-plan name, a stable supplier reference, meal basis, occupancy, payment terms and cancellation conditions. Record which dates and room types each rule covers. This gives the booking team a way to trace the offer back to its source.

A useful loading check

Search the same room and dates against two plans. Check that the expected total, inclusions and restrictions remain attached to the correct plan throughout the quote and booking journey. Ask the supplier to resolve ambiguous terms before loading them; do not fill gaps by assuming that similarly named offers are identical.
