Seat pitch

THE SHORT VERSION

Seat pitch is the distance between the same fixed point on one aircraft seat and the seat directly in front of or behind it.

Seat pitch is the distance between the same fixed point on one aircraft seat and the seat directly in front of or behind it.

Seat pitch measures the distance between matching fixed points on successive aircraft seats. The FAA defines it separately from seat width, which measures the space between the inner faces of the armrests. These describe different dimensions of the seating arrangement. Compare the relevant seat

Check the airline’s information for the aircraft, cabin and seat being considered. Keep the published measurement and its unit with the quote. This gives the traveller a clear basis for comparison instead of applying a general figure to every seat sold by an airline.

Ask what matters to the traveller

If space is a priority, review the stated pitch alongside width, recline and any restrictions for the chosen seat. Confirm details with the airline where necessary. This makes the discussion more useful than promising comfort from a single measurement.
