THE SHORT VERSION

Semantic search looks for information using the meaning of a query, rather than relying only on an exact match between its words and the content.

Semantic search looks for information using the meaning of a query, rather than relying only on an exact match between its words and the content.

Semantic search retrieves information by meaning as well as wording. Elastic describes using language models and vector search to find text that relates to a query even when the words differ. Its purpose is to match the intended subject more closely than literal keyword matching alone. Source: Elastic: Semantic search

Test phrases a traveller might use

Try a sample request such as a room for two adults and two children, then review the returned descriptions. Check the actual room capacity in the supplier information. This separates a useful search result from confirmation that an option meets the requirement.

Include precise searches too

Add exact hotel names, booking references and uncommon terms to the test set where relevant. Ask how the search handles these alongside broader questions. This helps assess whether the proposed system supports both exploratory browsing and finding one specific record.
