Help the right customers find useful pages

Search engine optimisation means helping search engines discover and understand pages that answer your customers' needs. Start with the holidays and services you want to sell, then make the corresponding pages useful and easy to act on. Rankings, AI citations and bookings are never guaranteed.

Choose three business priorities

Write down three areas where you have relevant expertise and a worthwhile offer. For example, you might prioritise family cruises, tailor-made honeymoons or escorted tours. These are planning examples, not a recommendation to sell products outside your experience.

For each priority, identify the best existing page. Ask:

  • Who is this holiday for?
  • What questions must the customer resolve before enquiring?
  • What can our advisers explain from genuine experience?
  • What is the most useful next step?

Improve those pages before creating dozens of general articles. A focused page might explain cabin choices, compare holiday styles or show what information an adviser needs to prepare a quote. Include only verified claims about what you sell.

Make your experience visible

Use genuine adviser knowledge, original comparisons and practical explanations. If nobody in the business has visited a hotel, do not invent a first-hand account. Check supplier facts and time-sensitive information against appropriate sources, and identify who is responsible for reviewing the page.

AI can help organise a draft, suggest questions or improve clarity. A person still needs to verify the content and add the business's expertise. Publishing large volumes of pages without added value may breach Google's scaled content abuse policy.

Luna Marketing is included free for every client on the Travelgenix Ignite package. Use it to prepare a draft around a real customer question, then add your own experience and verify the facts, offers and links before publishing. Its editing score is a checklist aid, not a promise of search rankings.

Check that Google can find the pages

Ask your website team to confirm access to Search Console and the sitemap arrangements. Inspect the homepage and the three priority pages with URL Inspection. If a page is not indexed, read the reported reason and send the exact URL and message to the website team. Requesting indexing does not guarantee inclusion. A live test and Google's stored indexed version are different views.

Do not change URLs just to insert keywords. If a page address needs to change, agree the redirects and link updates with the website team first.

Understand AI search without chasing shortcuts

Google's current advice for AI Overviews and AI Mode builds on normal SEO: useful original information, accessible pages and a good user experience. There is no special Google AI schema or required llms.txt file. Do not rewrite everything into tiny fragments or manufacture mentions around the web.

Put it into practice

Check discovery and outcomes separately

Both sets of evidence help you decide what to improve.

Discovery

Can customers find the page?

Check indexing, relevant search impressions and clicks. Review AI impressions where the report is available.

Business outcome

Did it create useful work?

Record valid enquiries, quotes, confirmed bookings and the contribution retained by the business.

Measure progress against useful outcomes

Once a month, review Search Console's search queries, pages, impressions and clicks. Compare similar periods and note seasonality. Identify one page to improve next rather than reacting to every daily movement.

Where available for your property, the Generative AI performance report shows impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. It may be absent when impressions are insufficient. It is not a report of enquiries or bookings.

Keep a separate record of qualified enquiries, bookings and their known sources. If a page attracts visitors but no enquiries, check the offer, clarity and next step before assuming that more traffic will solve it.

Complete this guide when three priority pages have been improved, their indexing has been checked, and a monthly review has an owner. The first month should produce a sound baseline and useful improvements, not a promised ranking position.
