THE SHORT VERSION

Lazy loading delays the loading of non-critical content, such as images outside the initial view, until it is needed.

Lazy loading delays the loading of non-critical content, such as images outside the initial view, until it is needed.

Lazy loading defers non-critical or non-visible content. Google warns that an incorrect implementation can hide content from Search because its crawler does not interact with a page by clicking or scrolling. It also advises against delaying content likely to be visible immediately when the page opens. Source: Google Search Central: Lazy-loaded content

Start with content below the opening view

Ask the website team which images or sections are being deferred and how their loading is triggered. Review the opening content separately. This makes the implementation easier to assess than applying the same loading rule to every image on a destination page.

Test the finished page

Check the full page on mobile and ask for a search rendering check of the deferred content. Keep the results with the page review. This helps establish whether the intended text and images are available in practice, rather than relying on a setting being enabled.
