THE SHORT VERSION

Length of stay, or LOS, is the number of nights in a hotel stay, measured from arrival to departure.

Length of stay, or LOS, is the number of nights in a hotel stay, measured from arrival to departure.

IDeaS defines hotel length of stay as the number of nights between arrival and departure. A stay from 10 July to 13 July therefore covers three nights. The figure describes the stay duration, not the number of people in the room. Source: IDeaS: Hotel revenue management glossary

Check the nights in the itinerary

Show arrival and departure dates beside the night count in a quote or booking review. For a multi-stop trip, check each property separately. This makes it easier to spot an omitted night or an overlap before the itinerary is confirmed.

Keep duration separate from restrictions

Record the requested stay length and check the supplier’s minimum or maximum stay conditions for those dates. Explain any mismatch before proposing alternatives. This makes the reason for a different itinerary clear rather than leaving the traveller to infer it from a failed search.
