THE SHORT VERSION

Live availability is the availability returned by a connected supplier or inventory system when a search or check is made. It does not itself confirm a booking.

Live availability is the availability returned by a connected supplier or inventory system when a search or check is made. It does not itself confirm a booking.

Live availability tells you what a connected system reports as available for the requested dates, party and product at the time of the check. Expedia Group’s Rapid documentation separates shopping results from a later price check and booking request. That distinction matters when explaining a search result to a customer. A travel example

Imagine an adviser finds a room for two adults for three nights. The customer returns later to book it. Treat the earlier result as a starting point and run the checks required by the supplier before presenting the final offer. This is an illustrative workflow, not a statement that a particular room has been held.

What to ask your provider

Ask when availability is checked, whether any results are cached and what happens when the customer changes dates or occupancy. Then ask the provider to demonstrate an unavailable result. This makes the meaning of “live” visible in the actual booking journey.

Keep the wording precise: available to search, checked before booking and confirmed are useful stages to distinguish. Do not describe a search result as a reservation unless the supplier’s response and terms support that description.
