THE SHORT VERSION

Booking pace describes how reservations build up over time before a hotel stay date or period.

Booking pace describes how reservations build up over time before a hotel stay date or period.

IDeaS describes booking pace as the speed at which bookings materialise ahead of arrival. It looks at the build-up of reservations over time. This differs from a single booking’s window, which measures the interval between making that reservation and arriving. Source: IDeaS: Hotel revenue management glossary

Compare at the same point before arrival

When reviewing a future weekend, compare the recorded bookings at a consistent number of days before arrival. Keep the room inventory and comparison dates visible. This gives the team a fairer basis for discussing whether reservations are building earlier or later.

Look for an explanation before changing rates

Check cancellations, group blocks, available room types and relevant events before acting on an apparent change in pace. Record the evidence and the proposed response. This turns the report into a reasoned pricing discussion instead of an automatic instruction to raise or lower rates.
