THE SHORT VERSION

A guaranteed departure is a trip the operator commits to run under its stated conditions. The term does not remove every possible cancellation or change.

A guaranteed departure is a trip the operator commits to run under its stated conditions. The term does not remove every possible cancellation or change.

Guaranteed departure has to be read with the operator’s conditions. Intrepid, for example, guarantees departures once one customer has paid in full unless its trip information or special conditions specify otherwise. It also explains that itinerary changes and cancellations for operational reasons remain possible. Source: Intrepid Travel: Guaranteed departures

Check the exact trip and date

Confirm the guarantee against the current itinerary, departure date and booking conditions. Ask the operator to clarify any minimum group requirement. This avoids applying a general website statement to a departure with different conditions.

Explain the limits before booking

Keep the operator’s wording with the quote and explain any relevant exceptions in plain language. Check separate flight or accommodation arrangements before committing to them. This helps the traveller understand the promise being made without interpreting guaranteed as an assurance that nothing can change.
